Scientific Imaginings?
I recently went through a period where in the back of my mind I started to doubt that God existed. (Science being one of the main reasons). But the more I read and watch (Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking), I realize how much scientists make things up! Thanks for your help, Clay

Big Bang is Big Bust!
Do you believein the big bang? Could God have used it or something similar to create the laws of te universe. I personally think that the evidence for the big bang is very thing, but I do have a hard time believing that God snapped his fingers and the world appeared just as it is today. Thanks for your help, Clay

Form Fast? Canyons Can!
Hey Dr. Jackson, I've been wondering about the cause of the Grand Canyon. Evolutionists seem to proclaim it as evidence of uniform erosion over.....millions of years........ what is the best creationist explanation for this natural wonder, and why don't we see anything like this elsewhere in the world? Thank you! -Isaac
There indeed are other examples of canyons both on Earth and on Mars, that fit the "catastrophic flood" model of formation, as described in yesterday's post on the flood canyon formed in Texas in 2005 during only a 3-day time period. That last quote yesterday from Univ of Va really cinches the truth -- it doesn't have to take millions of years. Thanks for the question, Isaac! DrJ

A lot of Water in a little Time!
Points of Origins with DrJ
source: Science News, 7/17/10, p15 "Texas flood carves canyon in days"
We creationists been saying it for 50 yrs--with enough water, a flood could carve all Earth's surface features in just a few months. Evo's have always said such carving must take "millions of years." But slowly, the evidence is turning that tide! On 6/20/10 the online journal Nature Geoscience analyzed a 2002 TX flood that "quickly stripped the creek bed of its trees and soil and began chewing into the limestone bedrock below" (says CalTech). Water cut a canyon over a mile long, 20 ft deep, and 180 ft wide! -- pulverizing "460,000 cubic meters of material, almost half of that being rock!" The USGS says, "It's an important contribution." UVA (where DrJ got his Dr) says, "It doesn't take millions of years to create an impressive channel ... flowing liquid can do a lot of work in a short period of time." Now--they're thinking! You keep thinking, too. DrJ

Steeling Copper's Timing
source: Science News, 7/17/10, p8
Evo's date human civilization at like 20,000 yrs old, but the Bible says it re-started 4358 yrs ago when Noah got off the Ark. Copper-smelting slags discovered in European Serbian excavations have been evo-dated at 7000 yrs--they don't say by what method (Journal of Archaeological Science, 7/2010) . The important thing is where civilization began. The report "challenges smelting originating in the Middle East" but the British Museum says this "probably won't last ... once research programs are in place at well-excavated sites [in the Middle East]." What a lot of trouble. They should just stick with the Middle East, since the Bible says metallurgy was a pre-Flood technology (see Genesis 4:22)--so was probably re-started near by and soon after the Ararat landing! Keep reading. Keep thinking. DrJ

Quantum Quacks BigBang
Two days ago Quantum String theorists announced "gravity is an illusion." Now at the Neutrino 2010 conference new data forced Vanderbilt U to announce "the most sacred symmetry of quantum field theory is broken" (Science News, 7/17/10, p9). Oh no. "Current theories assume particles and antiparticles must have the same mass" admits U of MD. But the recent Fermilab experiment is 95% certain neutrinos and antineutrinos are not the same mass. As usual, this has forced "a fundamentally new direction in our thinking about the origin of the universe," say the evo's. When will they get a clue! Every new discovery of data keeps proving their theories on how the universe made itself -- are cracked! Until there's data they waste thinking on "important" but imaginary things like "antigravitons." At least data -- can still make them think! DrJ

Natural Selection & Species
Dear Dr Jackson, In biology this past semester I learned about evolution. In that section we learned about natural selection and speciation. I personally believed in that part of evolution, but I'm a christian. So i was wondering if that part of evolution is true and if it's ok to believe in that if i were a christian. thanks,Faith
Faith, natural selection is real. The word "species" has lost all specific meaning these days. Sure, Darwin's book is "The Origin of Species" but ... it really should be and could be titled, "The Origin of Orders" or "The Origin of Phyla" or "The Origin of Classes." Species and variety have been muddled, but the distinctions between Orders, Classes and Phyla are still clear. It is a very excellent question and very timely for right now Faith, so thanks for asking. Your friend, Dr Jackson

Dinosaur Behaviors
Dr J. Something I've been wondering. How do those Sith evo's explain how certain dino act? They insist that a T-Rex hunts by movement and wouldn't see you if you don't move. They also claim a lot of other things like this, taking them strickly from bones. That logic doesn't make sense to me. What does make sense is getting these ideas from stories from people who actually saw them in action, like Job. What are your thoughts on this? Jedi Knight Charlie Wolcott

Hey Dr. J, I'm from El Shaddai and I have an astronomy question. How can we see stars that are millions of light years away even though the earth is only about 6000 years old? Wouldn't it take longer than 6000 years for the light to reach earth? In Him, Stephen
[DrJ has ministered to the youth and congregation at this Messianic Synagogue on several Sabbaths. It is always a joy to be with the Children of Abraham under the unity of Yeshua.]
[The question is a common, yet important one. There is the short-answer and then there is the book or video by Dr. Humphreys. I have ministered the creation message on a hostile college campus alongside Russ Humphreys. I have prayed with him. We have strong fellowship. There is no living man who has earned my respect more on matters of God's creation of the universe. His Christ-like character always makes me feel safe trusting him as either wingman or as captain in situations of spiritual warfare.]

Water Creature Extinctions?
J, I understand the flood and how it affected our animal population and extinction of dino's and such, but what about water creatures that died off? They didn't drown! What happened to megladon? and all the other various water dino's? Could it be that some of these very creatures still exist giving us Loch Ness and other legends? Ben in FL (my Dorito-stealin’, blue-eyed, Dark Irish, Christian brother – and I still have that sweater you gave me like 4 years ago – my wife says it looks great, so it's a keeper. But I never could fit into any low-cut loose-boot jeans, as you recommended ... 'guess I'm too old for that sorta thing!)

Age of Civilization
Dr. J, I have a question as to Dr. Girtwood's class. You said that [for the assignment] they had to find trace of civilization before 4000 years ago, but if they quote some evolutionary sources, they could supposedly prove the Egyptian pyramids to be "10,000-12,000" years old. What was their take on this, or did the assignment mean continuous chronology?
Thanks! Noah in MD (BTW Noah, I have always envied you for your cool sideburns!)

Radiogenic Haloes
Dr. J----I enjoyed meeting you and hearing your talk at the conference at Ridgecrest, June 9-13. You mentioned there are other explanations for Polonium halos other than Robert Gentry's. Could you tell me basically what the other explanations are and/or where I can look up and read the other explanations?many thanks, Aaron
Aaron, basically it was the creationists working on the RATE team that found an alternative explanation. During the decay series of Uranium, microscopic bits can break off the main mass and drift "downstream" a short distance through a crack in the matrix and then lodge there, some tiny (but still separate) distance from the main mass. Once there it can proceed to create a separate Polonium halo ... without having been an artifact of the instantaneous creation of granitic rock. Now ... this does not mean that all pleiochroic halos were formed like this. So, it cannot necessarily negate Gentry's work. But it does give this alternative explanation that could certainly apply to many of the haloes that Gentry and others found, though not at all to all of them. OK, I hope this helps. Yours in Him, DrJ

Oil Deposit Ages
Dr. J, I met this college student a few weeks back at Boiling Springs Christian Service Camp. He was one of the more enthusiastic campers and asked the question below. I told him that you would do a better job answering this question. Thanks Dr. J and see you soon. In Him, Shelby
(the student asks...) I have a friend who might possibly accept the Biblical truth of creation if he could understand how all of the fossil fuels could have developed in only 6000 years. Could you offer any insights brother? Ryder

Dinosaur Questions
Dr. J: I'm having trouble with the "new Earth" belief. How old are the dinosaur artifacts? Did Noah really take dinos (babies, I'm told) on the Ark? Could any of the fossils have been 'planted' by God just to mess with our heads? I have been lead to believe that dinosaurs required a VERY different environment - warmer, wetter - than what we have today/for the last 6,000 years or so or more. And, of course, there are the Ice Ages. I am skeptical of some of the ice cores and the explanations from the samples taken at the poles. Peace in Him, Mike in IL
