[this is an email that I received from a reader]
I'm sure you've heard of Chromosome 2 -- how it is supposedly "proof" that Evolution is true (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromosome_2_%28human%29). I'm skeptical about the claim that it is proof of a common ancestor. What really makes me raise my eyebrows is the statement that the DNA in two of a chimpanzee's chromosomes (when viewed as one chromosome) are nearly identical to the one chromosome that we have. What do they mean by nearly identical? Chimpanzee DNA is already 95% similar to ours (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12368483). I would consider that "nearly identical" and yet we are radically different creatures. What's your take on Chromosome 2 and the alleged fusion? - Brett
