Until now, the earliest evidence for a four-limbed animal with digits came from Ichthyostega and Acanthostega, which date back to between 374 million and 359 million years ago. "we would not have expected to have found them in this environment," Per Ahlberg, Uppsala University in Sweden, who led the new research. . (LiveScience)
"Digits"? -- we knew in 1999 that "Acanthostega and Ichthyostega could not have managed to do much more than flop around on land. The limbs are pretty much paddles." (Science News, 5/22/99, p328) And they didn't "expect" four-footed footprints in this rock-layer -- 'cuz that'd be in the wrong place to fit their evo-story!
ten million years older than the oldest known fossils of lobe-finned fishes which are widely considered to be transitional forms between fish and tetrapods.
Uh-oh that sounds like a real evo-problem! The ancestor isn't as old as its grandkids!

How 'bout "shifting" the "timing" to more like 6014 yrs ago -- for all living things!?

So, what's the deal? We found proof there were four-legged creatures walking around already, before the supposed "age" of the fish-lizard "missing link." Once again, there story is -- backward -- from the evidence!

Philippe Janvier from the National Museum of Natural History, Paris, France, put it this way, “I suspect that now we can push the divergence back to maybe 400 million years ago.”
Don't forget -- the more they "push back" the origins of the kinds of living things -- the closer they get to the truth! I don't mean that fish are 400 mill yrs old -- just that they go back just as far as all other life on Earth -- 6000 yrs ago!
